5 top finds at the 2018 new york baby show

May 29, 2018 by Lara 13 Comments

This past Saturday and Sunday was the annual New York Baby Show. This year, there was another excellent line-up of vendors showcasing their products and services over the two days. I was there for day two, which included talks featuring Dr. Harvey Karp, BabyGuy Jamie Grayson as well as panels on safety, breastfeeding, and getting back to you. There were five things in particular at the New York Baby Show that stood out that I’d suggest you check out as well.
La Petite Creme

I was very skeptical going in about La Petite Creme and was so curious to talk with them to better understand. An alternative to wipes? Really? To me, wipes have been Baby 101. Changing up one of the essentials had me intrigued. You can buy it and try yourself via my page on Amazon. Watch below for a demonstration with co-founder Cecile. I can now report back I’ve been trying this with Quinn. I’m still a bit hesitant on using on post #2 clean-up, but I can concur that it’s been a gentler alternative.  I love the security of knowing that the protective layer is included, that it’s all natural and that I’m not trapping moisture in his diapers. We still have some wipes to go through but I just might be a convert!

Newcastle Classics

Grits in the City - Parenting Blogger - Family Blogger - New York Baby ShowQuality linens are key to comfort for your little one. If they aren’t happy sleeping, it’s safe to say no one is. I was so impressed by all of the items offered by Newcastle Classics, even more so in person. Not only are they super soft but they have some unique yet super classic prints I’ve not seen elsewhere. Their pattern with the elephants flying planes is perfect to tie in with Q’s nursery, along with a subtle nod to one of our fave college sports teams, Bama. It’s available here on Amazon. I loved their digger swaddle, a refreshing option for girls with pink trucks. First time I’ve ever seen that – bravo.

b.box

Grits in the City - Parenting Blogger - Family Blogger - New York Baby ShowFounded by two moms, b.box focuses on innovative solutions to help today’s parent. Their first product was their diaper wallet, a streamlined way for mom’s to carry around the diapering essentials (diapers, wipes and a changing pad). Available in a variety of fun colorful prints, the diapering wallet makes it easy to to get by with just the bare minimum strapped to your wrist – always a good option to have. When we walked up to this booth at the New York Baby Show, our eyes instantly zoned in on their snack pack. The snack pack has two separate compartments, so you can easily take two separate food items for your little one. There is a spoon that slides into a slot on the top for secure storage. This is the first product I’ve come across that allows you to keep the spoon covered, so you don’t have to get worried about it getting dirty if you’re throwing it into a larger bag. Those are just a few of several products they have available that are worth a look. Excited for Q to try out the snack pack soon. Their products are available online or locally at Lullaby Baby in Brooklyn.

Tinybeans

I do social media full-time and I look at it all differently now after our son’s arrival – much more concerned about who has access to what and protecting our son’s privacy. I really enjoyed hearing about Tinybeans, a locked app that enables you to easily and securely share photos and videos of your little one with your family members and friends. Have those in your family who aren’t too tech savvy or maybe are app averse? No worries. Tinybeans has you covered, as their app will send them a daily roundup of all of the new photos. Readers of Grits in the City have the opportunity to sign up for free for the pro version of their app which allows you to upload larger size videos! Visit here to set-up your account now.

Travel Tray

Now that Quinn is feeding himself more and more, snacks on the go are becoming a part of our regular routine. When we saw the Travel Tray, we loved the idea. Most car seats have a cupholder on one side or the other, and Travel Tray slides in to convert that cupholder into a cupholder plus a snack tray. So smart and resourceful. We were so excited to win one at their booth and can’t wait to give this one a try.

Overall, it was another successful visit to the New York Baby Show. Look forward to going back in 2019!

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. I love how these products are made so creatively, perfect to suit the needs of mom, and her baby.

I think diapers, wipes and most of those similar stuff are popular because of the ease of use and some ergonomic reasons. But all these other good options should really be pushed to marketing asap, i would love more current and future parents of babies and toddlers to use these.

I don’t have any children but I have witnessed all the trials and errors my sister has had with baby products. The snack box with the spoon actually sounds really good, like you I’d be worried if the spoon didn’t have its own compartment.

I need the B.box! We’re using yumbox but my daughter loves yogurt too much and it’ll be perfect for the B.box.

Baby Shows are my absolute favorite. We have a few Newcastle Classics items and we are crazy about them. And I should definitely get started with Tiny Beans. Never heard of it – and have been waiting for an innovative app like that. Love seeing some of these great brands being featured at the shows.

I do not have any kids, but i see how these products can come in handy. Especially the diaper wallet and snack pack. I am like you on the fence with the alternative to wipes. I see how it can work for a changing #1, but #2, Im not so sure.

This sounds like a really great show! I’m glad you found out so many interesting and innovative products. About the cream for wiping babies, in fact in the country I’m from, wipes are not so used as here in Europe. Everyone there uses a very old and traditional thing called “oleo calcáreo” which is the same principle than La petite crème!
