Oh hello, 2016. So nice to see you. Now that we’ve made it through last night’s celebrations and made our way out of bed, it’s time to do this thing.
A new year means new resolutions – a list we aspire to and often fall short of but that’s ok. As has been my goal as of late, I’m keeping my lists shorter and aiming to stick to them. Let’s see how this goes. It’s less resolutions and more overarching goals.
Read. As a writer, this is the biggie. I used to spend so much time on the subway each week that this was easier. Not so easy now. My goal for the year is to read a book per month. Sounds silly. Sounds easy. Sadly, that will well-exceed what I did for 2015, but want to start attainable.
Write. I’m picking up my new manuscript this year. Super excited to get back down to it. So far, I have a lot of notes, a list of characters, and about 5 pages I wrote throughout my mystery writing class with Gotham Writers. This one is a bit more involved than anything I’ve written before, so I want to give myself a good solid year to write and edit, with the aim to be ready to query in 2017. I’ll be doing monthly updates on my progress over on my writing blog to keep moving. You’ll also continue to see lots of me here!
Cook. Continuing the theme from 2015, I want to be doing more cooking in the apartment. This means more cooking and less baking for me. One of our wedding gifts is this gorgeous vibrant red crockpot. I want to pick up lots of long cook-time options to throw into our weekly menu mix.
Relax. I’m awful at this one. Just terrible. Sitting still and staying in historically has not been my forte, but I want to get more comfy with it. This one pairs well with staying in and writing.
What’s on your resolution list this year?
