Some anniversaries call for flowers. Some call for dinner reservations. And then there are the rare, unforgettable milestones that deserve something entirely different—something extraordinary. For our 10th anniversary, we went all in.
Or rather, Topher did.
To mark a decade together, he surprised me by bringing a sushi chef and a maître d’ straight into our home for a 15‑course, sake‑paired omakase experience. Yes, in our own kitchen. If “sushi spoiled” were a real condition, consider me officially diagnosed.

We kicked off our shoes—literally—and gathered around our kitchen island as it transformed into a private sushi bar for the night. What followed was a feast to end all feasts. It’s taken me ages to write about it because I kept searching for words worthy of the experience… but here I am, finally trying.

The lineup was nothing short of spectacular:
Sea bream. Amberjack. Black throat sea perch. Snow crab. Sea urchin. Five different styles of tuna. Each course was its own tiny universe. Thoughtful, delicate, and impossibly fresh. The sake pairings elevated everything even further, turning each bite into a moment.

There was something magical about watching the chef work just a few feet away, the quiet precision, the intentionality, the way each piece seemed to appear out of thin air. It felt like Japan had been folded neatly into our home for the evening.

A huge thank‑you to Topher for dreaming up such a perfect way to celebrate ten years, and to the incredible team from Tomokase Sushi for crafting a night we’ll be talking about for the next ten.

Here’s to a decade down, and to many more celebrations to come. Hopefully with more creative food experiences in the years ahead.
