I can’t believe we’re already back here, about to close out another year. Most years seem to fly by, and this year seemed to do so even more than the others. As always, I love a reason to pause and look back through the best the year had to offer. Out of all the recent years, I have to say 2015 is one of the best, as it was filled with so many wonderful milestones and moments I’ll never forget. From engagement to new apartment to getting married to my best friend, it’s hard to not feel a bit sentimental in these final hours.
We started the year with a big bang, getting engaged in mid-January at Clover Club in Brooklyn. I’ve been humming Adele’s cover that T sang to me that night ever since. The early part of the year was filled with wedding planning, which I’ve been detailing over recent months here on the blog. May, it was bachelorette and bachelor party time, and I stayed local for a fun weekend with some of my favorite ladies. June marked our big day at Ici in Fort Greene, before we headed to our honeymoon in Cinque Terre, Italy.
I haven’t had the chance to summarize yet here, but the just under two weeks we spent in Italy were amazing. I’d been wanting to go to Cinque Terre ever since studying in Spain back in 2001, so it was so meaningful to get to go now and for such a momentous occasion. We took planes, trains, and boats. We hiked some, and ate tons. And smiled. Lots and lots of smiles!
It wouldn’t be my summary without some food. We finally got into the Roberta’s pizza making class at Brooklyn Kitchen, inspiring us to try to make our own pizza from time to time versus opting for delivery. There were so many great meals throughout the year, including my favorites: dinner at Gato, cocktails at Slowly Shirley, and dinner at Union Square Cafe.
It wouldn’t be a year in NYC without some random events. I sang with a live band as a part of our agency’s annual Agency Idol, belting out Miranda Lambert in cowboy boots. T and I went back to Sleep No More. No, we can’t get enough. We also went to Foxwolf’s Macbeth at NY Distilling Company. Leslie and I went to Book Riot, which got me all inspired to start writing again in earnest over the winter.
Of course, there were sporting events. I went with Jenn to see the Mets/Dodgers play. T and I went out to Coney Island to see the Cyclones play for ’90s Nickelodeon night. I joined in for the Chardonnay 5K, and realized that running a 5K isn’t all that bad after all. I continued my attempt to perfect the elusive layout at flying trapeze (where possible, around a series of injuries) and tried other fun things, like shadowboxing and aerial yoga.
A wonderful New Year’s celebration to you all, and look forward to seeing you guys on the flipside in 2016!
