2021: 365 days of self love

January 27, 2021 by Lara Leave a Comment

I’ve taken my sweet time setting my focus for the year. I’m well-aware we’re just shy of February but believe me, I’ve had my focus set since the beginning of the month. It’s funny – I took a look back in December at last year’s resolutions and, as always, there were a lot of misses.

  • Moving more: Check. Even while my mobility was impaired, I managed to move my body in some form or fashion and before the injury, I was totally crushing it.
  • Pausing more: Ha! Well, related, the injury kind of forced me to do this. And I think the pandemic in general made us all stop somewhat, whether we liked it or not.
  • Smiling more: To be honest, I tried to make this a focus but I think I could do more. I’m giving myself a C.
  • Connecting more: I honestly didn’t make this an intentional focus for the year, but it just ended up being a natural one. I’ve found my posse of fellow Peloton riders and we’ve been encouraging each other and riding together from our respective corners of the world. A number of those are newer friendships. Love that I’ve been able to build new connections even in our weird current world.
  • More bravery: So my goal was to pick back up Mama’s Got This, my parenting podcast. That didn’t happen in 2020 – but I did continue the work on our Bachelor podcast (I’m still continuing it along with some guest co-hosts! Interested? Drop me a line!). Last year was one of the hardest from a parenting perspective, so having a hard time dinging myself here.

So, what’s in store for 2021?

Rather than create a long list of goals I’m only going to partially complete, I’m streamlining. Keeping it super simple. I’m picking a focus for the year and doubling down on it so I can hopefully be successful all around. This year is going to be all about self-love. It’s going to be the little things – saying no when I need some time for me, occasionally indulgently going to bed early, etc.

But it’s also the bigger things. Using some of my days off from work just to breathe from time-to-time. Making time to write — more content here, my novel, more articles for other sites — whatever that shapes up to be this year. I have so many ideas at the moment that I’m just trying to organize them all into some plans. Making my health a priority – through exercise and by tapping into the right mix of doctors needed to keep it that way (I shared a bit on that here).

Q1 has remained a bit of a beast – knocking us all down a notch when we came in hot expecting a fresh magical start. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t found that. If anything, it’s gotten much much harder. But I still have a lot of hope. Excitement for the year ahead and what I hope to accomplish. And if nothing else, I have a ton of ideas and lists with plans. Let’s go!
