I have been going to Air since 2020 when T bought me a certificate close to their opening for Valentine’s Day and I was instantly hooked. I took a bit of a break during peak pandemic (and while I had my broken foot) but have been back at it as soon as I could. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to further elevate my level by signing up for this fall’s 25 hour aerial fitness certification. The certification program is their teacher training, so it is a great way to take your practice to the next level or to progress on to teaching.
Schedule
The days were long, starting at 8AM, only breaking for a quick 30 minute lunch and running until 4 or 4:30PM. There were a total of five us going through the training together and it was a mix of people I knew from Air and some new faces!
Breaking down teaching
Long days also led to bigger progress. We took one class each day and then took other classes in segments as we took turns leading portions of classes. We learned the challenges of breaking down all of the moves and building out your classes into portions where you face the students or when you face the mirror.
Anatomy
Throughout the weekend, we went through the anatomy side of the workout. This was such a mental shift for me, as I haven’t taken any sort of anatomy anything in probably 20 years. It was very helpful though to not only discuss the exercises but the muscle groups worked and how to best structure a well-rounded workout to target a mix of the different groups.
Overall, the Air aerial fitness certification was such a challenging yet rewarding experience. I was sad to see it end on that Sunday, though my body totally welcomed the break! I’m excited to be continuing my journey with Air in early 2023 for format training, the next step in the journey to becoming a teacher at Air. More to come!
