Fancy meeting you here! I’m Lara Ziobro, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way to Grits in the City — my corner of the internet for more than 18 years where Southern roots meet big‑city grit, suburban life and everything in between.
I grew up in Alabama, slowly hop‑scotching my way up the East Coast until NYC finally claimed me more than a decade ago. These days our family calls New Jersey home, but the city is still woven into my daily rhythm — my runs, my commutes, my cravings, my stories. It’s the backdrop that shaped me, and it still fuels so much of what I share here.
By day, I’m an SVP of global communications and marketing in New York. By early morning, late evening, and every pocket of time in between, I’m a runner chasing big goals, a parent navigating the beautiful chaos of raising kids, and someone who finds joy in good food, strong coffee, sweaty workouts and the books stacked on my nightstand.
Grits in the City has always been about the blend — Southern warmth and NYC edge, the miles I run and the meals I love, the parenting moments that humble me, and the stories that make this life feel full. If you’re into food, fitness, family, books or simply finding your own grit wherever you are, you’re in the right place.
Pull up a chair, lace up your shoes, grab a snack — let’s dig in.
