The fact is that I would like to own just about every item Free People has in their Free People Movement line. I started with one thing that caught my eye from one of the Peloton instructors wearing it. Then I found a number of other shirts that I loved … and here we are. I can’t do their shorts because they don’t seem to understand yet how awesome and necessary pockets are for running shorts. I won’t buy anything any more without them. But their tops? Aces.
This Riptide Crop was the gateway. I love it because it’s a fun vibrant orange, has a cool pattern too it, and has the bra layered with an over layer to make it more of a shirt. The color is already different but layered with the mesh decorative layer, it is one of the most unique things I now have to workout in. Added bonus: being crazy bright makes it perfect for early morning runs. No way you can miss me in this one!
It’s perfect for summertime runs or spin classes, or wearing with a cute high rise skirt for the weekend. I was worried the mesh layer might somehow feel heavy after I was really sweaty, but I can confirm it’s definitely not the case. I can’t get enough of this one! It was basically out of stock but looks like they’ve since restocked. There are also fun leggings to match! Reviews on the site were a bit all over the place but I’m glad I gave it a shot. (And fret not, because they have free returns.)
I also really love the Running Through My Mind Tank. It has this subtle mesh pattern to it. It makes it super breathable for hot workouts. Some mesh materials would also be pretty fragile and prone to snag. This is somehow heavier so as to avoid that, yet light enough that it isn’t too heavy for a serious workout — striking that magic balance. When I run in it, the wind gets trapped underneath it and kind of continues to swirl around. It’s kind of like bringing your own fan with you, which I totally love!
Added bonus: you can see whatever sports bra is underneath so it looks super stylish on and you can mix it up each use with different color combos. I have the dark teal one and like to wear a bright sports bra underneath it for some fun contrast. I actually sized up on this one so it would be a tad longer and roomier to layer and was pretty happy with my decision. Going with your usual size would likely make this a bit more cropped than you see here on me.
Finally there’s the Perfect Conditions Tank, the power buy! It’s only $30 and is a lovely sports bra / flowy t-shirt combination. Note it is not padded, so I usually slide in two pads in it. Even though they’re just kind of freely in there, it totally works. Love the open back and the material is super lightweight.
I’ve never seen Free People Movement mentioned on sites for being great for running but I’ve put some serious miles in wearing the above and can confirm they’re great. I’ve found a new athleisure fave!
