I’m pretty sad we are sitting here at the end of August because I’m not ready to let go of summer. At all. I know we have several weeks to go but still…
It’s been a while since I’ve shared one of these but wanted to do a bit of a recap of some of the things that I’ve found and loved in my world over the last month+. Hopefully some will be fun and/or of interest to you.
Current read: Yes, please by Amy Poehler
I had what I thought was a super easy, achievable Goodreads goal for 2021. 12 books. One per month. So easy, right? FALSE. I’m just happy I didn’t do what I originally wanted to, which was to make my goal 24. I would be sadly falling short.
I’ve learned that some of the really good books, the thought provoking, challenge your heart books, can take a lot of energy and sometimes, we don’t have enough of it or focus to give. And that’s ok. After spending most of the year trying to make reading those happen, I’ve pivoted to a new approach. As we’re starting to clean in earnest around here, I’ve adopted one of my usual pre-move strategies – trying to read as much as possible so I can start to donate.
First up? Finally reading Yes, Please by Amy Poehler. I started it yesterday while at a lengthy appointment to get my hair done and I finished 1/3 of it already. Great, funny and interesting read. I’ve always found her so amusing to watch in pretty much everything she’s done. I’m enjoying reading how she got to where she is — including frank discussions on some regrets. I also love her transparent commentary on the stress of ever writing this book. RELATABLE. Can’t wait to read the rest.
It made me think why haven’t I been doing this for more of my 2021 reading? New strategy through the end of year, for sure.
Podcast obsession: Be There in Five
Besides my own podcast (shameless plug, you can find Will You Accept This Podcast here on all channels), I desperately needed a new podcast to check out that wasn’t Bachelor-related. What can I say. I love some good market research to see where mine stacks up? Anyhow, boy did this one fit the bill. Based on a friend’s recommendation, I checked out Be There in Five and it was love!
I’ve been going back through a number of older episodes based on topic of course. So far, I’ve listened to episodes referencing Free Britney (there are three), Twilight, #BamaRushTok (hoo boy…) and even Gilmore Girls (in omnia paratus!). The episodes are mostly over 2 hours and are both smart and interesting. When she takes a deep dive, she fully commits – which I fully appreciate. It’s been nice to add another adult voice into my pandemic bubble world. Thanks for joining in unknowingly to the chaos, Kate Kennedy. Check it out here.
Amazon Finds
I always love a good bargain that looks like it’s not. I found a couple of great ones on Amazon this month I wanted to pass along in case helpful. One is this super cute babydoll dress that hits a bit above my knees (helpful note: I’m 5’7”.) It comes in a number of colors and prints. I loved this flower print because it made me think of the flowers I used to doodle on every page of notes during high school — prob college too. Vibrant and easy wear.
I also love these high waist running shorts with pockets! The waist is high yet comfy. The pocket isn’t super reinforced but holds enough to work (full disclosure that it doesn’t fully fit my iPhone X and have room to zip.) I mostly was looking for a crazy bright pair of shorts which is surprisingly hard to come by. These fit the bill and didn’t break the bank. (Win.)
