bobolink and hunterdon land trust’s farmers’ market

September 2, 2022 by Lara Leave a Comment

I’ve been wanting to pay Bobolink Farm and Dairy a visit ever since we tried their cheddar as part of a cheese tasting with Vaughan Cheese at work. They weren’t doing tours for bit in the spring because there was so much rain but they’re back to doing them periodically and I finally found a weekend they offered one which worked for us, too.

Bobolink is located in Milford, New Jersey and wasn’t too far of a drive for us. They have an on-site market where they sell baked goods, their fabulous cheeses, meats and other products. You have to purchase tickets and book ahead to join for one of their tours, which one of the owners, Nina, offers from time to time on the weekend.

It was such a great opportunity to get to see their working farm up close and learn more about their approach directly from the owner. They give so much free reign to their grass-fed cows and take a sustainable approach to what they do. And the love shows through in their products!

Following the tour, we had the chance to try some of their cheeses — which were amazing. We had enjoyed the cheddar in the tasting which led to our visit, so I knew we would have to bring home more of it. I also really enjoyed the Amram and the Schmearkase. I am not a fan of blues but I have to say I enjoyed their’s!

Hunterdon Land Trust’s Farmers’ Market

After the tour at Bobolink, we decided to cat b the tail end of the Hunterdon Land Trust’s Farmers’ Market. It was only a short ride over. It was on the list of markets Bobolink typically goes to so we figured it should be worth a visit!

We came home with a nice assortment — fresh peaches, tomatoes, squash and some vibrant colored okra. I’d never seen the latter so had to give it a try. I can confirm after trying to fry it up last night that I won’t be trying it again. One of the things I love about markets is picking up new things to try — whether they’re all winners or not!

I really loved Pretty Bird Farm, which had some produce but mostly these gorgeous assortments of flowers. I couldn’t resist so currently have them in front of me as I write this! Check out the link above for where you can find them.

Ginny’s Cafe

Before heading home, we swung back by Ginny’s Cafe, a colorful restaurant in Frenchtown, New Jersey we passed on our way to the market. The kids were very ready to head home, so I picked us up some lunch to enjoy at home. We loved their Southern honey stung chicken. I messed up and didn’t specify with waffle. Next time! Their onion rings are also amazing. Don’t miss out on those.
