We stayed in the city this past weekend in NoMad and were trying to figure out a good spot for breakfast in the area since our hotel did not include one for us. We were making our way over to the New York Baby Show, so didn’t want to stop somewhere that would entail a big wait. We also wanted to be able to walk there to enjoy the day before the rain inevitably returned. When I heard about Cha Cha Matcha and their super intricate matcha cappuccinos and lattes, I was sold.
Cha Cha Matcha is run by two NYU grads. Post graduation they spent time traveling the world, specifically in Japan. There they gained an appreciation for the culture and love for Japanese tea, which would lead them to get creative with recipes using tea and to opening Cha Cha Matcha back in 2016. Unlike some of the tea houses they visited in Japan, they wanted their cafe to feel cool and accessible but still offer great match
Besides being super cute and Instagramable, Cha Cha Matcha has options for the whole family. They have several kinds of pastries (croissants and their croissant donuts seemed to be the winners, but there were a few others in their display for you to peruse). They also have a coffee ollaboration so you can get your straight up java if you’re not in the matcha mood.
The green tea made for a lighter start versus my usual coffee – which was nice following a later than usual night out with a touch too many fancy cocktails. There are two locations in Manhattan – the one we went to in NoMad and the one in SoHo. Would definitely visit again.
