breakfast at the smith, midtown

September 30, 2016 by Lara Leave a Comment

It’s pretty rare that I’m trying to find a reservation to eat before 11am on a weekend. When my friend A came in town, she needed to be uptown for a Yankees game early enough that we were looking for a spot for “brunch” on the earlier side. 10:30. No biggie, right? Wrong. Most sit-down restaurants in Manhattan don’t start serving until 11 or 11:30, aside from coffee shops and diners.

Thank goodness for The Smith! They open up for breakfast on the weekend, which is essentially their brunch menu available at an earlier hour. Perfect. We did learn that if you come at this time, you’ll likely be surrounded by lots of families, anxious to avoid the let’s say more lively midday brunch crew.

Everything I’ve had at The Smith before has been delicious. I’ve been for dinner with girlfriends. After work bites in their event space with our sister agencies. Even a midday working lunch. Brunch was equally delicious.

I was torn between their pancakes and the French toast, and went with the server’s suggestion – pancakes with whipped ricotta, toasted pecans, and salted caramel sauce.

Thanks for another great meal (and for finally answering the question of where I should go for a nice breakfast)!
