I don’t get to come into the city as much as I’d like on the weekend so when the invite for a friend’s birthday brunch came in, I was totally in. I’d been to Miti Miti back when they first opened up for appetizers but never brunch. There aren’t a ton of fabulous Mexican brunch spots in the city, so was curious to give this a try.
Of course though, I was more excited for the company than the meal. I so rarely get to see these lovely ladies these days – a contrast from how things used to be. Think that’s why it’s so special these days when I do get to see them all.
Unlike many brunch spots, Miti Miti has a ton of options for you – ranging from sweet to savory. I was eyeing their Fruity Pebbles pancakes (because I’ve never seen that on a menu). Pancakes topped with Fruity Pebbles cereal, mixed berries, raspberry sauce, whipped cream, and maple syrup. Intense yet intriguing for lovers of all things sweet. I finally settled on their chicken and waffles, the perfect combo of savory and sweet. The plate included crispy wings, honey hot sauce, bourbon butter, and a fruit salad. I’ll admit, I forgot about the honey hot sauce, so accidentally dipped the waffle into it expecting syrup and – surprise! It was great though to have both a savory and sweet dipping option. The chicken was just perfect, too. Not overly heavy on the batter and slightly crispy.
Next time, I want to try their scrambled eggs tacos or the baked eggs in a skillet, which is 2 eggs, sautéed kale, potato hash, pico de gallo, and salsa verde, all baked in skillet with avocado toast. Whatever my order, I’m getting another side of their brussels sprouts as they are amazing.
They have a brunch special you can add on to any entree. For $20, you can do their boozy brunch, which is 1.5 hours of your choice of mimosas, Bloody Marys or beer. You can take it up a notch and for $25, add sangria, sangrita, and frozen margarita. Instead for $24, I had two excellent spicy hibiscus margaritas. I was pretty happy with my choice. Note if you’re adding this to your brunch order, you have to have a group of 14 or less and the restaurant will automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill.
At the end of the meal, they let us take our time which was great. Many of these spots rush you out when you reach the hour and a half mark, but here they did not. If you’re looking for a spot for brunch in NYC, highly recommend this one.
