Instead of buying me a “thing”, L decided to get me an evening out this past Saturday. The plan was pizza, cocktails, and a show — several of my favorite things. We started the evening off at Co, a fabulous Chelsea spot I haven’t been to since we went there years ago after going to a taping of the Martha Stewart Show. This weekend, over five years later, I found myself incapable of choosing anything other than what I had the first time around for a second time.
To start we ordered the Truccione Saré, Sullivan Street Bakery’s signature dark baked sourdough loaf, which was served with ricotta. All it was lacking was a bit of honey. We also went with their Passion Sparkler, which is passionfruit mixed with prosecco.
Their pizzas are a good mix of simple Italian staples, like their margherita , to more outrageous offerings, like the pizza of the day from Saturday, which incorporated in a pumpkin purée en lieu of more traditional pizza sauce. I had to go with the Stracciatella, which was prepared with a crushed tomato sauce, stracciatella, arugula, and black pepper. The upside of this pizza is essentially you get your pizza and salad rolled into one!
Following dinner, we made our way over to the Upright Citizens Brigade. I’ve always meant to go, so was really excited when that was L’s recommendation. The improv group performing when we went was Grandma’s Ashes, a group of three hilarious comedians. I can’t remember the last time I went to an event that started at 10:30pm, but it was such a great show. Might have been my first visit to UCB, but certainly won’t be my last.
