cronut (at last)

July 13, 2016 by Lara Leave a Comment

When I saw the Cronut flavor of the month for June, I decided to finally check this “to do” off my NYC bucket list. Of all the NYC trends, the Cronut is one that seems to have continually eluded me. Being a big fan of trying all things hype to see if they’re justified, I decided this was the month to see for myself. I mean what’s there not to love about blueberry elderflower with lime sugar?

I’ve been to Dominique Ansel on a few occasions, but I’ve never gone with Cronut intentions. I’ve even enjoyed an array of his confections at Dominique Ansel’s Wonderland at the 2014 New York City Wine & Food Festival, which was indulgent yet a decidedly Cronut-free affair.

Waiting in the crazy early AM line in hopes of getting one? Not up my alley. But the new-ish Cronut pre-order system totally is. Yes, buying pastries weeks in advance? Kind of insane. However, I opted to buy four Cronuts weeks in advance in early June.

I met up with two of my good girlfriends on Saturday morning to give these a try over some iced lattes. With this new system, they really have this process down to an art. We waited in line for no more than 5-10 minutes and were on our way back to their cute patio area to enjoy our Cronuts.

The verdict? Well worth the hype. The amount of flavor Dominique Ansel manages to pack into this small package was unreal. I’m not going every Saturday, but I think I’ll have to head back to check out a future flavor of the month.
