It has been a few weeks since we went, but I can’t stop thinking about our dinner at Summit House in Summit, New Jersey. A night out with just us two always feels like a treat but even more so when we are able to find a restaurant at Manhattan quality closer to home.
To start, we went with our own individual appetizers. I had to give the bucatini a try, using their house-made pasta, served with shaved brussel sprout, bacon and a carbonara sauce. So good – light and flavorful.
T went with their chicken liver, which was served with roasted Gala apples, pickles shallots, sage and maple. This is not my thing, but I did try a bite and can concur their version is quite good.
We also shared their “chicory” salad, which is trevisano greens, radicchio, roasted kabocha squash, citrus sherry and Parmesan.
For our main, we went with their salmon. It was served atop farro with walnut, acorn squash, a fig mustard and arugula. To me, the acorn squash and fig mustard made the dish. Fig and mustard seemed like a slightly odd pairing but it was phenomenal.
And of course, when you don’t get out for a nice dinner often dessert is a must. We went with the carrot cake, which had a pumpkin seed brittle, cream cheese glaze, rehydrated raisin and butter pecan ice cream. I was expecting great flavors but wasn’t expecting such a generous portion. Loved that before I’d even taken a bite of it! I think I’m spoiled from having carrot cake anywhere else. So good and so sad this is likely no longer on the menu with the change in season!
We were so pleasantly surprised by how great the overall experience was. So much of the menu was seasonally influenced so assume that the menu changes up a bit over time. Look forward to seeing what’s available on our next visit!
