hill house nap dress: thoughts on 3 styles

August 5, 2021 by Lara 9 Comments

Only one of our two kiddos under age five still consistently naps but that doesn’t mean my love of the art of the nap has faded. As someone who almost never gets to nap, did the Hill House Nap Dress mean I would magically regain the possibility of a nap? If so, take all my money right now. If not, maybe … just maybe … it would bring a bit of that “nap like” feeling into my life? I was curious enough to learn if it would live up to the hype and the pricetag to click purchase and find out. (If you’re tempted, click here for $20 off your first purchase from Hill House.)

I started with the Ellie Nap Dress – what would prove to be my dangerous gateway purchase into a whole new world of the Hill House Nap Dress. A world of limited run fabric choices and opting in for restock notifications. Initial observations?

I really wanted the black swiss dot fabric, which was of course out of stock in my size. You’ll see that’s often an issue on their site. I looked at the options and eventually decided that the blue botanical print was my second fave and ordered it. I don’t usually do my second choice but I made an exception.

When it arrived, I quickly tried it on. You can tell Hill Home started as a home store with nice sheets because I swear this dress is like wearing a sheet. All. Day. Long. And I mean, no complaints from me. I put it on for a day and that’s all it took. I was hooked. The fabric was heavy enough yet somehow breathable enough as well. I love the almost smocked bust because it reminds me of the beautiful smocked dresses my mom made for me as a child and also means that a bra is really optional with this dress. Win/win.

Once I decided it was a keeper, it wasn’t too long before I went down the dangerous rabbit hole of exploring the other fabrics. What else was on their site? I fell in love with the Navy Glitter Check. It was available in their Katherine Nap Dress, which is a bit too short of a style to work for this mama. I decided the Athena Nap Dress might could work. No way better to see than to order it and give it a try.

I was totally right on the fabric. It is thicker than the blue botanical print was, but it is gorgeous! I love the shimmer and the fact that it is a bit heavier will come in handy. Also, I loved the shape of the dress. The slight flare to it makes it a comfy wear and the length was perfect for me. (Moms, you can even add a short pair of shorts under there for days when you’re out with the kiddos!)

While I was ordering the Athena, I decided to order the Nesli Nap Dress as well. I liked the idea that the sleeves in this style could be pulled down and worn even longer, which would be useful for colder temps. I ordered the Blue Glitter Check, one of their classic fabric options.

I decided that while I liked the bottom half, the top wasn’t my favorite out of the options. I couldn’t figure out what it was about the sleeves. It reminded me of… something. I’d seen reference to Bridgerton when it came to the styles, but I haven’t seen the show so wasn’t it. At long last I figured it out.

“20 pounds of brown sugar.” IYKYK. (And if you don’t, watch this!)

I decided that as pretty as it was, this wasn’t the one for me. So back it went.

What do you think? Are you on Team Nap Dress with me?
