holiday traditions

December 23, 2022 by Lara Leave a Comment

To me, the holidays are about time with family, beautifully decorated spaces (ours and experiencing others out in the world) and something fresh and sweet on the table. This year, we are doing some of my annual faves and bringing some back into rotation we haven’t had in quite a while.

I dusted off this Giada de Laurentis recipe for lemon ricotta cookies. I haven’t done them since 2015 — I remember being so excited to cook them in my parent’s kitchen since it was so spacious. We were still in the city and were newly married. Wow time flies. (Pulling this pic back out too from the digital vault.)

It’s been a while but I also pulled out this holiday sugar cookie recipe. To maximize how it all comes together I’ve spread this out over multiple days. I mixed the dough on Saturday, baked them on Sunday and will ice them this week with the kids. Much easier to ice now that they’re good and cool!

Today is a day for staples — I’m about to start making the cheese danish using the recipe my mom always used. Later today we will have our usual chili and cinnamon rolls using her recipe too.

This year I’m adding a new one — holiday I’ve cubes of pomegranate juice, fresh cranberries, oranges with a touch of rosemary. Hoping they’ll prove the perfect way to jazz up a glass of prosecco.

Cheers to the holiday finish line!
