Janie’s Life-Changing Baked Goods

November 10, 2024 by Lara Leave a Comment

When I learned there was an “official cookie” of the TCS Marathon and — gasp — it was one I didn’t know, I had to say “tell me more!”. I came into NYC the day before the race so I wouldn’t be rushed and, ideally, could get a bit of extra rest in a more peaceful and controlled environment. The latter didn’t quite pan out as hoped (more on that in another post) but I tried to make the most of the former.

I ended up going to the expo on Friday, anxiously wanting to get my hands on my bib early and to have a better stocked expo experience. I’d planned to go to the expo on Saturday with my friend JB, so instead we found ourselves with free time to spend enjoying NYC. So, back to that cookie…

When I looked at the marathon “virtual goody bag” I learned that Janie’s Life-Changing Baked Goods was home to this year’s cookie — a chewy brownie cookie with vanilla buttercream and marathon-inspired sprinkles. If you purchased the cookie and showed your medal after the marathon, you got a free cookie. I went the day before instead and they gave us 10% off our purchase — which was equally fine by me!

They had so many different ones to choose from that we decided to each get an assortment — and to split them further from there. I have to say, our cookie buffet was a perfect way to spend a relaxing pre-race day, catching up over a bit of something sweet! My faves were the s’mores cookie (which I ate after finishing the race!), the race cookie and the guava cream cheese pie crust cookie.

Janie’s is written in colorful flowers on a white brick wall inside Janie’s Life-Changing Baked Goods in West Village

There’s a great story behind the story too — founded by Janie who was struggling with homelessness and founded the business as an act of self-love to try to stay sober. What a beautiful origin story! Definitely recommend checking out Janie’s if you are in the city at one of their three locations — West Village, UWS or East Harlem.
