I know what’s not making my list — the weather. Ugh. Still quite a bit more to go and I’m very much over it already. Here’s a bit of what’s good this month that’s helping to get me through.
Cozy socks and sweatshirts
This is where working from home is getting dangerous because I have to force myself out of my thick sweatshirts on workdays. On the weekends though, I’ve been living in my Tyed With Love sweatshirt, complete with mama at the neckline and the kid’s name embroidered at the sleeve.
But what I am wearing everyday are these Indigo Reading Socks — definitely an upgrade to your average slipper sock and they’re currently on sale!
Layers galore
I can’t seem to stay warm enough this month, so layers are a must. One of my January MVPs has been a simple ridged ruched bodysuit from Free People. I love that it’s ruched versus fully fitted. Much more forgiving. It’s a bit older or I would link it here — but it is on a few secondhand sites now!
Warm weather read
I know most people save lighter books set in the summertime for the summer, but I’ve been taking a different approach — using them as the perfect wintertime escape. I know filling my to read list with books set in warmer seasons won’t shorten winter, but it sure makes me feel better in the meantime!
This month’s read was Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner. It was a fun one, focused on the challenges of old friendships, family friction, a beachfront romance and an unexpected mystery.
Peloton bike bootcamps
If I’ve talked to you about Peloton, ive probably mentioned it. #Sorrynotsorry… they’re amazing! I love somewhat mindlessly hopping onto the bike when it’s still dark outside — and that’s still my usual — but lately, I’ve been mixing these in and I’m loving it! One of my resolutions this year was to focus on overall fitness so this is helping with that goal as well. I recommend Cody’s 30 minute Spice Girls Bootcamp from 7/16/21 as a great starting point.
Curious on some great other classes to try out that you might have missed? Here are some of my recent faves from this month, where I celebrated my 900th ride:
- Emma Lovewell’s 30 Minute Disney Ride – 1/16/22
- Hannah Frankson’s 30 Minute Amy Winehouse Ride – 1/12/22
- Ally Love’s 20 Minute Disney Barre – 1/14/22
- Olivia Amato’s 20 Minute Hip Hop Run – 10/1/21
Movie(s) of the Month
I’m a big fan of binging my way through a show with loads of seasons (Chicago PD being the current one.) Here’s what broke that trend this month:
- Tick Tick Boom: I knew I was going to like this one before we ever turned it on. Because I love the music of Rent. Because I love basically all things Lin Manuel-Miranda has put out. Because after crying watching Andrew Garfield’s interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for it’s release I knew he’d brought some magic to it. And what can I say, I was right. Been humming the songs from this one ever since.
- Encanto: I caught this on the family’s second viewing and (surprise surprise) I can’t get the music out of my head. Good thing too since most weekends now involve at least one Encanto dance party with the kiddos.
- Matrix Resurrections: I do not like science fiction. At all. For some reason, this series has always worked for me. Returning back to Neo’s world was a fun trip.
What was good for you this month?
