We had to drive L in to Manhattan yesterday for a doctor’s appointment. Though bad weather threatened later in the day, it ended up being a nice start to the day.
I’ve never driven in before so thankfully my dad went in with us for the adventure. Also, thankfully I learned all about SpotHero last week from my Tori Amos adventures so I was able to score us a decent buy for a parking spot for the day that was in a perfect spot. The doctor’s office was in Midtown West and we got there super early to ensure we’d miss all the crazy traffic, so we decided to walk around a bit until the appointment. Thankfully we found some coffee shops that opened nice and early (hello, Blue Bottle!) and we walked around until one of my favorite spaces in the city Bryant Park opened at 7AM. We ducked in to walk around a bit there, letting little L check it all out and even observe someone doing some yoga over by the Bryant Park Cafe and Grill.
After her appointment (by the way, can’t say enough nice things about Dr. Scott Spiegel if you’re looking for an oral surgeon for a frenectomy), we took a quick walk up towards Central Park to try to find somewhere we could sit outside and eat. On the way, we checked out the interesting exhibit that is outside at Rockefeller Plaza – “Saca Tus Trapos Al Sol” (“Air Out Your Dirty Laundry”) by Pia Camil. It takes up a lot of the space along the northwest side of the plaza.
We also walked by St. John’s Cathedral, a spot I used to walk by often but can’t remember the last time I remember really seeing. It was nice to get to pass by all these familiar spaces, even if briefly, as we made our way through the city.
We continued further up and made our way east to Sarabeth’s since I knew they had outdoor seating. They were busy as usual, but thankfully were able to seat us in only 15 minutes! I had been to Sarabeth’s once before to the Upper East Side location but never to this one by Central Park. The morning was perfect to sit outside, and they gave us plenty of room for us to have a larger sized table and I was able to have L either sitting in my lap or next to me.
I tried their lemon ricotta pancakes, which had a nice slightly creamy center, a touch of tart from the lemon and a nice added dose of sweet with the powdered sugar and syrup. We also got an order of bacon, which was a nice addition to the meal. L needed some softer items so got her some yogurt and their fresh squeezed OJ. She was especially a fan of the OJ, which was gone in no time.
While it would have been nice to just be hanging out in the city for the day, I’m glad we were able to make the most of our little half day trip in.
