We leaned all the way into Pi Day Weekend this year, and Liberty Science Center made it easy with their annual Math Madness celebration. The whole museum was buzzing with math‑themed activities — the kind that sneak learning into play so seamlessly the kids don’t even realize they’re doing anything educational.

Every corner had something new to try: probability games, math yoga, programming little robot mice, and even actual mouse races. We missed the cockroach counting contest (which, honestly, I’m not too heartbroken about), but there was still more than enough to keep the kids fully immersed. The highlight might have been the moment they spotted The Count, followed by hugs, high‑fives, and a very enthusiastic “ha ha haaaa.”

Before we headed to LSC, we kicked off the morning with our first hike in a while at the Watchung Reservation. The trails were finally clear — a little muddy in spots, but that’s part of the charm this time of year.

There’s something grounding about starting the day outside, especially after weeks of cold weather and busy schedules. The kids were thrilled just to be back on a path, carefully maneuvering the sometimes tricky muddy trail as we went.

And because every good hike deserves a reward, we made a pitstop at Halo Roasters for some breakfast tacos for the parents. Warm, messy, perfect — paired with three fancy coffees, one for each of us and one to split. The kind of simple post‑hike ritual that makes the whole morning feel complete.

By the time we made it to Liberty Science Center, we were already riding that good‑day momentum — and Math Madness just amplified it. Watching the kids bounce from station to station, fully absorbed and laughing, felt like the best kind of reminder: learning doesn’t have to be structured or serious to stick. Sometimes it looks like yoga poses aligned with basic shapes or cheering for a mouse to maneuver a plastic maze, or running to catch a photo with The Count.
A little math, a little mud, a lot of joy. Exactly the kind of energy we needed to close out this weekend.
