no pasta ’til brooklyn

June 18, 2016 by Lara Leave a Comment

A few weekends ago, my parents picked us up in Long Island. Some friends of ours were so kind as to give us two bags of baby boy clothing, so we made a quick road trip out last Saturday. We were thinking about grabbing a bite somewhere out on Long Island, but when my parents mentioned Frankie’s 457, it was no question.

I don’t get back over to my old neighborhood too often, but when I do, it’s usually for some good food like this. We always enjoyed Frankie’s, but it has an added sentimental layer now. My sister got married there. I went there with my parents after I picked up my wedding dress. It just feels nice and homey at this point!

We started off with one of their salads – the Frankies’ Greens with a cipollini onion cider vinaigrette. We were surprised by the roasted veggies that accompanied the dish. They had a great char on them and made for an unexpected yet welcome addition.

For main course, it was no question. All four of us got the same dish – their cavatelli. It’s just so good. They prepare it with Faiccos hot sausage and a browned sage butter. Usually T and I split main courses to allow us to try more of the menu, but this? This is an exception. It’s each of us for their own – a personal portion to also maximize leftovers. Win/win. This is one of the few dishes that tastes just as good reheated.

Maybe sometime we’ll try something else on the menu, but outlook is doubtful.
