I love roses. I do. But let’s be real, I’ve always been a tulip girl. My now husband can tell you some of the best bodegas in NYC to find them where they are still closed up, holding their beauty in for you to enjoy them in your home as much as possible.
I heard about tulip picking in New Jersey after the season had passed last year but was determined not to miss out on it this time around. We went to Holland Ridge Farm in Cream Ridge, NJ — not right by us but totally a doable day trip. When I saw the weather forecast for this Saturday had improved, I quickly snatched some tickets for us four to go.
The tickets give you a four hour block of time to enjoy everything Holland Ridge Farms has to offer. I’m not sure how it is during the week, but there are a lot of things going on if you visit during the weekend.
When you walk in, they give you a map of the farm so you can easily find your favorite color of tulips as well as all of the other thing to check out. You can take one of their tractors over to their store to save you some walking time.
They had several food trucks set up with everything from coffee to snacks to full meals. Come prepared with cash as some vendors do not take cards!
We got lunch for the kids but for my ”meal” I couldn’t resist one of these super cute tulip cupcakes — always a sucker for pretty sweet treats!
They have buckets you can use to collect the tulips you want to pick to bring home. Tip: walk through the farm a bit before you choose! Flowers are $1 each. Take photos with in front of the pretty open ones but pick the closed ones to bring home!
It was a lot of walking but we had a great time! If you haven’t been yet, there are still two more weeks and thousands of tulips to get in on the fun. Last day is May 1st!
The farm also has other special celebrations throughout the year — tickets for their u-pick sunflowers go on sale in September. Can’t wait to go back!
