Some Sundays just feel charmed from the start, and this one certainly did. The Cranford Cupcake Run delivered everything its name promises: miles, smiles, and a well‑earned cupcake waiting at the finish line. It was the perfect day to lace up, breathe in the crisp air, and enjoy a community race that blends fitness, fun and a whole lot of heart.

This race was extra special because Q joined me again along with my mother-in-law. Watching my child’s excitement and determination always gives me an extra boost, even when I’m not sure how my body will hold up. After a recent fall left my knee less than thrilled about the idea of running, I wasn’t sure how the day would go. But nothing motivates faster splits quite like trying to keep up with a kid who keeps sprinting ahead with zero hesitation. It was equal parts humbling and hilarious. And absolutely worth it.

Beyond the joy of running together, the event supported a cause deeply meaningful to me. Proceeds from the race benefitted Metavivor Breast Cancer Research, an organization dedicated to funding research and supporting individuals affected by Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Running for a purpose always adds a layer of gratitude to every mile, and Live Run Give LLC continues to impress me with events that are not only fun but also rooted in giving back. Plus, their races all tie into food themes, which is basically my love language.

After crossing the finish line and savoring our celebratory cupcakes, we headed into downtown Cranford in search of good coffee and we found it at Track 5 Coffee. This cozy spot instantly won me over. On a sunny day, their outdoor puppy patio is the perfect place to unwind, and their menu is full of creative seasonal drinks, hearty breakfast sandwiches, and even canned cold brew to take home. It’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately add to your “must return” list.

All in all, it was one of those simple, joy‑filled days that remind you why you run, why you show up, and why community matters. A cupcake at the finish line doesn’t hurt either.
