Running the London Marathon for the Brain & Spine Foundation

December 2, 2025 by Lara Leave a Comment

I wanted to share a bit more on my “why” this Giving Tuesday. The London Marathon 2026 will be my fourth Abbott World Marathon Major, but this race is deeply personal. I’m running in honor of our daughter and in memory of my mom Linda Ruth and Aunt Kathy Ensley. Their strength and resilience inspire me to keep moving forward, and I want to channel that energy into raising awareness and funds for the Brain & Spine Foundation.

Why the Brain & Spine Foundation

The Brain & Spine Foundation provides vital support for people affected by neurological conditions. In their most recent impact report, over 532,000 people benefitted from their health information resources. They also run a free helpline staffed by neuroscience nurses, offering guidance to families navigating complex diagnoses.

Neurological conditions are far more common than many realize:

  • 11 million people in the UK live with a neurological condition
  • 1 in 6 of us will face one in our lifetime
  • 1 in 5 deaths is due to a neurological condition
  • These conditions cause around 140,000 deaths annually and are a leading cause of disability

These numbers are staggering, but behind each statistic is a family—like mine—whose lives are forever changed.

Giving Tuesday: The Perfect Kickoff

Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. In 2024, donors in the U.S. gave $3.6 billion in just 24 hours, and in 2025, giving is projected to surpass $4.01 billion.

It’s one of the most impactful fundraising days of the year, making it the perfect moment to launch my campaign.

By donating today, you’re not just supporting my marathon journey—you’re helping the Brain & Spine Foundation continue their mission of providing life‑changing resources to families in need.

How You Can Help

  • Donate: Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
  • Share: Spread the word about my campaign and the Brain & Spine Foundation.
  • Support: Follow my training journey and cheer me on as I prepare for race day.

Final Thoughts

The London Marathon is 26.2 miles, but the journey is much longer. It’s a path paved with memories, resilience, and hope. This Giving Tuesday, I invite you to join me in turning miles into meaning. Together, we can honor loved ones, support families, and make a lasting impact for those living with brain and spine conditions.
