It’s ironic that as many blueberries as we go through in our house we have never gone to pick our own on the farm. We have never been to Snyders Farm but when the Snyders Farm u-pick blueberries popped up this weekend and were just under a 40 minute drive away, I decided we had to go.
Before you visit
In comparison to other farms, I would describe Snyders as more no frills. There is a very small house set up as a market, selling fresh honey, jams, dressings and spreads. You can try out some of their honey before you buy, if you like. I especially like the wildflower.
U-pick blueberries
The farm offers a variety of u-pick options throughout the year, depending on what is in season. Late June through late July it’s time for some blueberries! Be ready to roll up your sleeves and put in the work for Snyders Farm u-pick blueberries. No options to just buy a basket of pre-picked blueberries here. No worries though. Picking them is quite easy — and fun!
We quickly picked it up. With a little bit of instruction, the kids were able to do it on their own, which they loved.
The goal was easy — look for that deep grape-y purply blue with as little green as possible. The green meant it wasn’t quite ripe. Search, inspect and a slight twist to select!
They competed with each other to see who could fill up their container and, before we knew it, we had three containers filled to the top with blueberries!
The fields are not too big, so we were able walk around without them getting overly tired. The farm has some photo opportunities set up throughout the field, which I appreciated. Nice to be able to easily capture some photos to capture the moment without having to go too far!
Blueberry syrup recipe
After we got home, one of the first things I did was to make us some homemade blueberry syrup the next day. Bookmark this easy recipe you will want to try!
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups of blueberries
So easy to make! Heat up a medium size pan with everything but the blueberries in it. Bring to a boil before adding the blueberries. Add the blueberries and allow them to simmer for four to five minutes. The blueberries will begin to burst and to thicken as it cools. Perfect on pancakes or drizzled over ice cream!
