I’d been working on a fun post outlining all the things I’m working towards. I’d signed up for two big things coming up — the Womxn Run the Vote Relay benefiting Black Voters Matter and Still I Run’s virtual half marathon. It’s been a busy month of training hard for both and things were going so well! I even celebrated a big milestone off the road with Peloton ride #400. All was perfect! Just according to plan.
Well gotta balance the highs with the lows, right? I got up yesterday morning for my long run — another 6 miles based on the schedule I’ve been following. It was beautiful outside. Upper 50s —- just the right temperature for a run that isn’t cold but is refreshing. While training, I started doing the Rock ‘n Roll virtual series as a fun way to do a few races along the way, so I did a separate entry for the Rock ‘n Roll VR Virginia Beach 5K and clocked to end before continuing on. Shortly thereafter I felt a pop … or a flip … or I don’t really know? I was taking a one of Matty Maggiacomo’s outdoor Peloton runs and around that point, he told us to keep going and I thought maybe I could, but I couldn’t. I walked to a total of 4 miles and then I had to sit down on the side of the road.
After a trip to the urgent care, An X-ray showed a floating bone fragment in my foot and some other fractures in my foot. I won’t know more until probably Tuesday. It is ironically around the same spot I broke on my other foot around 13 years ago (moral there – NEVER MOVE IN FLIP FLOPS — here’s a fun flashback to then on my old blog). Until then, outside weekend plans are scrapped, a pair of crutches are my new accessory and my upcoming half marathon is out. Bummed after so much work and progress — but enjoying the extra QT with the family + snuggles with the kiddos. Sometimes life tells you to slow down and you have to say “ok.”
