tori amos, a road trip and chocolates

July 13, 2023 by Lara Leave a Comment

When Tori Amos announced she’d be back on the road in 2023 for a second leg of her US tour I was thrilled to see the venues in a travel radius of our house.

I elected to skip the Beacon Theater in NYC and Count Basie in Red Bank in favor of Wolf Trap and Hershey. I absolutely love Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. I’ve seen both the Indigo Girls and Joss Stone there — and the opportunity to see Tori there wasn’t something I could miss.

I drove down the day of the show, leaving super early to make sure I’d be there in time to drop off a letter at the venue (a recent fan tradition.) The weather was on and off rain and made us worried that things would be soggy for the outdoor show but we were pleasantly surprised. It was perfect!

We spent some time on the lawn catching up with and making some new friends and enjoying a picnic. If you e never been to Wolf Trap, definitely take advantage of the pre-show picnic. You can bring in whatever. We stopped at CAVA and picked up some great packaged dinners to enjoy!

We made our way down to our seats for such an amazing show. She always has such a great energy on her hometown shows and this did not disappoint. I was so grateful to be there! We took one last picture as we left as we were I believe the last people at the venue that shouldn’t be and we were getting shoo’d our by security!

We got on the road bright and early for the trip to Hershey. After a quick stop at the venue, we headed into town to explore. We didn’t decide to do the theme park and instead made it a low key day appropriately all about chocolate!

First we went to the museum and did the tour, which included a tasting and a class at the chocolate lab where you get to make your own chocolate bar.

Second, we had an early dinner at The Chocolatier, a full-service restaurant at the front of Hersheypark appropriately focused on all things chocolate. Literally every part of the meal featured chocolate — even this pulled pork sandwich, which came on a pretzel bun (my favorite.)

The show was so good and a nice note to end my little two-show stint of the tour. I really loved the theatre. The sound was fantastic and Tori was on fire, as always.

After the show, I hit the road and drove all the way back to NJ that night. While it was doable, I’m grateful for A who chatted with me and kept me extra alert for the trip back. Can’t wait for the next tour. (Know she’s resting but knowing her, I’m sure Tori has an idea when that’ll be already!)
