winter ONEderland birthday party

February 11, 2020 by Lara Leave a Comment

When I started looking at first birthday ideas, Winter ONEderland was a standout to me. It was logical for L’s big first birthday party. I learned pretty quickly though it was more challenging when it came to decorations. So many first birthday party ideas are very boy / girl or more summertime themed. Pulling this one off required a bit of planning. I’m sharing where I found all our things in case you’re interested in planning one, too!

Food

  • White chocolate covered Oreo snowflakes
  • Melted snowman cookies

Decorations / Supplies

  • First birthday banner (Etsy — or get ours at a discount now on Poshmark!)
  • Winter themed streamer backdrop (Etsy)
  • Winter ONEderland sign for backdrop (Amazon)
  • Winter ONEderland cake topper (Amazon)
  • 1 candle (Amazon)
  • String of white felt snowflakes (Marshall’s)
  • Blue/gold plates, cups & napkins (Amazon)
  • ONEderland goodie box bags (Amazon)

In the beginning, I really fought incorporating all things Frozen. In the end? I leaned in. Hard. I went to Party City and grabbed a bunch of small Frozen themed items for the goodie bags.

For activities, I picked up these Olaf craft kits from Party City. Super easy and not messy for the kids. And inexpensive! We had kids there ranging in age from 11 months to 8 years, and the majority thought these were a great thing to do. My mother-in-law also picked up Frozen coloring books at the Dollar Tree. Between the two activities, the kids were more than entertained.

Of course, L was wearing something in theme. I got a great deal on this super cute Hanna Andersson dress at Christmas time and it was perfect. Their dresses are such great quality and you can catch them on decent sale often throughout the year. Highly recommend.

This time, I opted not to make the cake — going instead with a local bakery, Natale’s. They did a great job of doing exactly what I wanted for the occasion. I also learned that this much icing is extremely heavy!
