grain & cane

A few weeks back, we went with my dad to visit Grain & Cane. We are always up for trying a new restaurant out here to add another go-to spot to our pretty short list of faves.

Located in the Connell Industrial Park, Grain & Cane is also adjacent to The Embassay Suites. It’s only been open a handful of weeks. You could tell they’re still getting up and running. At the time we went, you couldn’t even find their menu online as they were still refining it. (Now, you can find it here.)

We started with their salt-baked beet salad, which was prepared with charred brussels sprouts, slab bacon, almond, blood orange and balsamic beets. They typically serve it with blue cheese but so kindly subbed goat cheese for us. This was a flavorful, cool start to the meal – perfect for summer. Only complaint is there wasn’t enough bacon (the bacon was so good).

For our main course, we went with their fried chicken dinner. The portion size was so much larger than we anticipated. It worked out nicely that we were sharing. The chicken was served with red beans and Carolina gold rice, braised greens, a fermented pepper sauce and two honey-drizzled biscuits. The dish could have used a touch more salt for flavoring. However, the e coating on the chicken was nice and crispy. Also the mix of flavors in the rice/beans/greens was excellent. I’d love to come back for a second visit after they’ve had a bit more time to settle into a groove.
